Physical Description | Drass has chiseled features and the surface of his body is covered in rough, crystal like facets, giving him a distinct rock-like appearance (picture the Thing from the Fantastic Four). He's larger and stronger than most other Brikar; Starfleet Medical believes this is because he has spent his entire life in Earth standard gravity, opposed to his home world's low gravity environment. He's squarish in stature and has small all-black eyes, two vertical slits for a nose, a simple slit for a mouth, and two small circular ear holes on either side of his proportionally small and compact head. Finally, he has three-fingered hands featuring two fingers arranged in a 'V' pattern and an opposed thumb. Drass is incredibly strong, even by Brikar standards, capable of lifting 3000 pounds (1360 kg) with a maximum effort. His large size makes him rather slow and clumsy, especially in small, cramped, and/or crowded environments. Despite this, he is capable of short bursts of impressive speed and agility, though they leave him very fatigued afterwards. Like the rest of his race, his thick, crystalline hide is highly resistant (but not invulnerable) to energy, projectile, and melee weapons, earning him the nickname "The Juggernaut" during the Dominion War. Also like the rest of his race, he is unusually susceptible to the lower power stun settings on most energy weapons, as well as sonic based weapons, the effects of which last about twice as long on him as they would on the average human. It should be further noted that he is unusually slow to heal when he is injured due to his slow metabolism and even slower rate of cellular division, taking up to twice as long as the average human. Dermal regeneration requires a significantly more powerful regenerator than normal and can take up to twice as many treatments to heal a given injury as the same wound on the average human. Personality & Traits
General Overview | Drass is a kind and compassionate individual who always puts the safety of others before his own. To those who don't know him, he comes off as gruff and distant, and a bit crass. He is exceptionally stubborn and strong willed, and as a result is highly resistant to telepathic influence and interrogation. He is extremely loyal, almost to a fault, and will readily jump to the defense of his friends and comrades (which has led too many a bar fight during his life). While he is not above using violence to resolve conflicts, he always makes it a point to never start a fight. He simply finishes them. Because of the renowned Brikarian stoicism, Drass comes off as gruff and distance, as previously mentioned. He has a good sense of character and a rather sarcastic sense of humor. Unlike most other Brikar, he lacks the usual prejudice toward Klingons, having been raised outside of that society. That said, most Klingons don't bother asking his feelings on the subject and just assume he is like all other Brikar. Thus most of his previous dealings with Klingons have inevitably ended with a fight. Drass' Academy psychological evaluation indicated that he suffers from mild claustrophobia. While treatment was offered, Drass refused to acknowledge even the possibility that he had claustrophobia, much less needed treatment for it. For this reason, it is recommended that he be kept under close observation during any extended service aboard a starship. Update: Following his incarceration, Drass has shown himself to be much more cynical, pessimistic, and confrontational than he had been previously. He has demonstrated a complete lack of faith in the Starfleet judicial system and has shown a new tendency towards violent outbursts, usually resulting in moderate collateral damage. To date, however, he has not physically harmed anyone. Lastly, he appears to have developed an uncharacteristic dislike of Cardassians. It is the opinion of Starfleet Medical that Drass have regular counseling sessions until such a time that the aforementioned issues are resolved. Medical Profile: Drass has had very few major injuries during his time with Starfleet, aside from the injuries sustained during his first encounter with the Jem'Hadar. Health wise, he has no known allergies and had the Brikarian variant of both the Measles and Mumps as a child. While Drass is highly resistant to disease and injury, when he does become sick and/or injured, it can take twice as long or longer for him to recover due to his slower metabolism and slower rate of cellular division. While recovering, it is highly recommended that he refrain from strenuous activity and get lots of rest, despite his objections otherwise. Update: While incarcerated, Drass suffered a myriad of injuries and maladies, ranging from mild to life threatening, but made a full recovery each time and is in ideal health. Training: Drass has been fully trained in all aspects of security/tactical, including rigorous flight training, and engineering. While proficient with all Starfleet weapons, he specializes in close quarters and hand to hand combat. He is highly skilled with many bladed weapons, including the katana, bat'leth, and mek'leth. Despite passing his engineering certification boards with flying colors, he opted for a position in Security, following in his father's footsteps. During the Dominion War, in order to produce trained crews faster, Starfleet Academy cut back on inter-discipline training. Thus, Drass took only the basic courses necessary in navigation, science, ops, and medical. Now that the war is over, he hopes to broaden his training, esp. in the area of science, but has yet to do so. |
|
Strengths & Weaknesses | Drass has a unique command style among high-ranking Marine officers in that he is always the first one into combat and the last one out. This "lead from the front" approach has caused his leadership ability to be questioned on more than one occasion, but has never failed to earn the respect and loyalty of those that have served with and under him. |

Hobbies & Interests | Interests: Close quarters combat, botany, science Likes: Justice, puzzles, weight lifting, target practice, model building, fishing, reading old earth sci-fi Dislikes: Cardassians, criminals, conflict, small crowded spaces, illicit drugs and anything else that messes with one's head |
Personal History | Drass was born to Koss and Dona Kebron while they were stationed at Deep Space 5. As a young child Drass spent most of his time while not in class alone, as the other children on the station generally avoided him. This didn't seem to bother him, since he spent most of his free time reading, tinkering with various pieces of discarded tech, building things, fishing on the holo-deck, or listening to the stories told by various travelers as they passed through the station. When he was ten he was given a job by a freighter captain moving freight on and off the ship. While working on the freighter, he met a young Andorian orphan that the captain had 'adopted' named Talain. The two became fast friends and would later attend Starfleet Academy together. At the age of 18, Drass applied and was accepted to Starfleet Academy. He chose to follow in the footsteps of his parents, double majoring in Security/Tactical and Engineering. During his first semester, his Intro to Starship Combat Tactics instructor recommended he give the Marine Corps ROTC program a try. He did and was surprised to find that he enjoyed the rigid structure and more challenging curriculum. The intensive calisthenics were a bonus. His time at the Academy was largely uneventful, save for the dozen or so bar fights he was involved in. While he was cleared of any wrong doing in each case, the incidents remained on his permanent record. Because of his double major and involvement in ROTC, Drass spent an additional two years at the Academy beyond the standard four year program. When he did graduate, he was immediately offered a commission in the Federation Marine Corps as a Second Lieutenant, which he accepted. His first assignment was to assist in the relocation of Federation colonists after their colony worlds were ceded to the Cardassians as a result of a new treaty. Near the end of the year, he participated in one of the first skirmishes of the Federation-Maquis conflict after a Maquis cell attempted to ambush his platoon. Drass led his troops to defeat and capture the Maquis cell, all while incurring no losses. As a result, he was promoted to First Lieutenant and made XO of his company. In late 2373 Drass participated in the first ground action of the Dominion War, leading the defense of a Federation scientific outpost while the civilian inhabitance was evacuated. As he and his platoon were preparing for evac on the last of the shuttles, a group of Jem'Hadar broke through the automated defense perimeter they had hastily erected to cover their retreat. Single handedly, Drass engaged and defeated the Jem'Hadar in personal combat, buying enough time for the surviving members of his platoon to load the last of the civilians onto the shuttle. He barely made it to the shuttle before it was forced to lift off. As a result of his actions, he was promoted to Captain and given command of his company. Over the course of the war, Drass participated in the defense and evacuation of over a dozen Federation outposts and colonies, and a total of 152 combat actions. In recognition of his contribution during the war, he was promoted to Major and assigned as XO of the 58th Marine Battalion. For the next several years Drass and his unit were deployed across Federation, mainly in police actions against pirates attacking border colonies and the occasional support action against elements of the Orion Syndicate. In 2382, following the Anazi declaration of War against the Alpha and Beta quadrants, Drass was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel, given command of the 58th Marine Battalion, and assigned the task of locating and eliminating the facilities that the remnants of the Obsidian Order were using to field Jem'Hadar ships and troops in support of the Anazi. During his deployment, he met the ambitious young Romulan Intelligence agent Commander Karina Tallera, who was stationed on the Norexan Class Warbird Valdore when it was provided to Drass and his unit as a mobile base of operations, following the discovery that the surviving elements of the Tal'Shiar were aiding the Anazi. The pair hit it off the moment they met, starting whirlwind romance between combat operations a few days later. Though they served together for nearly three years on the Valdore, their relationship never had much of an opportunity to evolve and grow. Much of the time Drass was away on combat operations, while most of the rest of the time was spent in public where the two maintained the appearance of a strictly professional relationship, keeping their personal relationship secret. They both knew because of the tenuous relations between their two governments, it would be an unmitigated political disaster if word got out about a high ranking Romulan Intelligence officer having a love affair with a high ranking Federation Marine CO. While the necessity of keeping their relationship secret didn't seem to bother Karina (such duplicity was considered the social norm in Romulan society, after all), it slowly wore on Drass as time went by. By the time war ended and the last of the Anazi's allies had been rounded up, he was ready to throw caution to the wind and take their relationship public. He had already prepared his resignation, clandestinely acquired a ship and provisioned for the trip to explore the Gamma quadrant like they had always talked about. Karina, however, was more than a little hesitant about just throwing away her career. Inevitably, this led to an argument, which degraded into a fight, the kind of fight where both sides said things with loud voices and harsh tones that they would later regret. In the end, Drass stormed out before he started taking his anger out on the various inanimate objects in the room, leaving Karina to simmer on what had been said. It would be the last time they'd see each other for almost twenty years. Two days later Drass was arrested on allegations of war crimes committed against the Cardassian people during and immediately following the Anazi War. The Cardassian government lobbied the Federation Council to hold the trail on Cardassia, and after much public outcry they relented. The trial was a circus, with the media making a spectacle of it and the public eating it up, apparently looking for anything to distract them from the misery of their own lives. The prosecution seemed to have an open and shut case. Drass was present when and where each of the atrocities had occurred. Each of the atrocities had been perpetrated with Federation weapons and tactics. There were even sensor logs from the Valdore that seemed to back up each of the charges. With the evidence against him strong, the evidence supporting his plea of not guilty limited to his testimony, and the public crying out for a conviction, it didn't take long for the tribunal to come to a unilateral decision: guilty on all counts, including the murders of 119 Cardassian civilians. He was summarily stripped of his rank and military honors and sentenced to life in prison performing hard labor. It was ordered that Drass serve out the duration of his sentence in a Cardassian labor camp mining dilithium. He was a model prisoner initially because he didn't want to ruin any chances he had at a successful appeal. He kept to himself, did what he was told, didn't start fights or harass the guards, or try to escape. As a result of his good behavior, he was soon moved to a private cell and the guards began to treat him with a little more respect and dignity. As the years passed and his case became mired in the endless appeals process of the Federation judicial system, Drass came to the realization that he'd be stuck at the labor camp for a considerable length of time, if not indefinitely. Soon after, he began to tire of losing his meal rations because of petty little criminals with delusions of importance or power. The Cardassian method of discipline was simple: if one inmate misbehaved, their entire work detail suffered, usually via the loss of one or more meal rations. Thus, when the guards were done 'disciplining' the offender, they were returned to their work detail and met with a 'warm' welcome. Many times the offender didn't survive the 'reception'. Those that did usually didn't cause trouble afterwards. Of course, there are always a few exceptions to the rule, either because they're too stupid to take a hint or were perceived to be too powerful, dangerous, or influential for retaliation. The later was the case of one Nausicaan pirate captain named Larek, who was serving time for attacking a dozen Cardassian freighters and murdering the crews. After a particularly brutal confrontation where Larek killed three guards and injured four others, the work detail was denied meal rations for two days and forced to work double shifts for a week. When Larek was returned to the work detail, seemingly none the worse for wear, Drass confronted him. Larek just laughed at Drass and punched him in the face. All that succeeded in doing was breaking all the fingers in his right hand and thoroughly pissing Drass off. Drass then proceeded to give Larek a sound whipping, tossing him around the court yard like a ragdoll, all the while explaining in no uncertain terms that his behavior would no longer be tolerated and if anything like it happened again, Drass would rearrange his limbs. Over the next several months, Drass began to take a more and more active involvement in the leadership of his work detail, utilizing his military leadership experience and training in an effort to instill some discipline in the motley group of convicts. At first there was considerable resistance to his efforts. Only a small handful were willing to listen to Drass, understanding that better behavior and increased productivity would earn them more privileges, better treatment, and possibly even shorten their sentences. After a few months, when Drass and his group began receiving double rations, some of the other inmates took notice and wanted in. Beyond those few, there was little interest in Drass and his ideas. The other inmates didn't see enough benefit to risk being seen as a collaborator by the hard cases that ran the handful of organized gangs within the labor camp. For nine months Drass drilled the dozen or so inmates that had agreed to follow him in calisthenics, hand-to-hand combat techniques, team work, and unit tactics. The guards largely ignored the small group, as they caused no trouble for them, unlike the gangs. The other inmates, however, constantly harassed the group, especially those associated with the gangs. The abuse was limited to verbal attacks, as most of the inmates remembered what Drass had done to Larek. That changed one night when two dozen gangsters cornered Drass' Dozen (as the group had become known as) on their way back to the barracks from the mine. What made this confrontation different from any other was the fact that Drass was in the infirmary with damp lung, leaving the rest of the group on their own. The ensuing brawl was short but bloody, leaving three of the gangsters dead and the rest in the infirmary, while Drass' group sustained only minor injuries. Needless to say, that did not sit well with the gang leadership. A few days later a scuffle between two rival gang members erupted into an all-out prison riot when a couple members Drass' Dozen stepped in to break up the fight. The fight had been staged to distract the guards so other gang members could assault the security check point while it was most vulnerable. Their attack failed and the guards in the watch towers opened fire on the prisoners rioting in the yard below with lethal intent. When the dust settled, over seventy prisoners were dead, including all twelve members of Drass' Dozen who had been caught in the center of the conflagration. Devastated by the loss of his students, Drass confronted the prison gang leaders upon his release from the infirmary. The resulting melee was short but bloody. Twenty prisoners were killed, and another dozen grievously wounded, including Drass. After his eventual release from the infirmary and solitary confinement, Drass kept to himself. He avoided socializing with his fellow inmates as much as physically possible, focusing on the work and his never-ending appeals process. Over a decade and a half later, documents proving his innocence surfaced after the death of a highly influential Gul. After verifying the authenticity of the documents, the Federation Council overturned the tribunal's conviction, released Drass from his incarceration, and restored his rank and military honors. After passing a comprehensive panel of physical and psychological evaluations, Drass completed an intensive 18-month training and re-certification program. He passed with flying colors and was cleared to return to active duty. Despite this, he found himself being passed over for posting after posting, the Federation propaganda machine having had 19 years to establish his reputation as a traitor and war criminal. No Starfleet CO wanted anything to do with him. After a long deliberation, Drass was preparing to tender his resignation when he finally received orders: report to Earth and take command of the marine detachment on the newly re-commissioned USS Spartan. While returning to Earth, the vessel he is on—the USS Ellington—disappears without a trace and is presumed lost with all hands. Over two millennia later, the crew of the DFS Lavie happened on the debris of the USS Ellington. On board, they discovered Drass’ the nearly perfectly preserved remains. An unorthodox attempt was made to revive him, which was successful. Suddenly finding himself two thousand one hundred fifty nine years in the future with a massive headache, Drass must find a place for himself in a strange, new galaxy where everything has changed, yet is still the same. |
