Mission:
Season 2: Mission 1: Day after Day
Location: Ezri's lab/DFS Lavie
Timeline: Afternoon, just before tea time, of 10-11-4566
With the arrival of the first few Alliance warships, Ezri was able to converse with some of her fellow scientists that was attached to the Alliance's WEAPDEV branch to see what could be used against the "Swarm" as the tactical geniuses were calling the bugs that had attacked Earth.
One of the scientists had come up with a prototype weapon that he was calling "Rosanne" and his reason was because "If the swarm thinks that the own the whole show, then Rosanne will *KILL* the show!!" while another scientist had come up with a very unique idea...but not for a weapon but something else.
Something that could've helped to possibly save more people during the attack on Earth all those days ago.
So Ezri had the information for the device sent to her lab on the Lavie and she was walking around it with her uniform jacket off, leaving her curvy form clad only in her departmental colored undershirt and uniform skirt as she went over the holographic models of the device's function.
By this point Ari had finished a number of meetings and was off duty. She would be attending another meeting though and then hopefully having a fun evening. She had heard from one of the Information Security Division's Science Liaisons that some fo the scientists from the MSA as well as a collaborative group of Federation Scientists had begun working on some rather fun toys; she was indeed interested in what they had planned and so she figured why not go ask the Lavie's now Chief Science officer. She had fun with he rin the past and considered them both friends so popping in uninvited wouldn't hurt anything or so she thought. Ari headed to the labs after asking the computer where Lt. Deparra was. She entered the lab not disturbing her and waiting until she was done quietly observing her. By this point in the day Ari was just in a tank and shorts like she was later in the day; only difference was she had her duty vest on over the tank but it was unzipped.
Ezri was so wrapped up in her work that she didn't notice Ari's arrival until ten minutes later when she turned to reach for something that was on a table next to where the other woman was, her graceful fingers gently brushed her skin which made Ezri blink blindly for a second before she turned around and then quickly put a hand over her heart as she turned to face the other woman fully, "My apologies, captain." she said, fighting the blush that was trying to take over her slightly pale face. "I was so wrapped up in Doctor Holden's prototype that I kinda...forgot the rest of the world existed...sorry sorry."
Ari continued to wait and wait. The thought had crossed her mind to make herself known but she did not and just watched Ezri work. "It is fine; so what are you up to?" Ari asked her.
Ezri nodded, "Um alright then. Doctor Holden is a research scientist with the Alliance and she recently came across a unique form of matter transmission and transportation." she said before indicating the device she was studying. "Basically the device uses a projected array to target a subject before instantly breaking them down into a kind of base code that is then stored in a unique storage drive."
Ezri then walked over to a portion of the projected hologram and zoomed in on one part in particular. "This is the storage chamber which I have set at sixteen gigaquads of storage to test a theory and I have to admit that the process is somewhat frightening but rather effective as target array takes less than a second to break down a person and store them like so much computer data...um, are you with me so far, Ari?"
Ari nodded. "Yes; I understand... I'm not an idiot and I actually know a lot about computers." She said.
Ezri shook her head quickly enough that her long dark brown hair snapped back and forth like a wave. "No no, I didn't mean or imply that you were, Ari, but I *MYSELF* am still trying to wrap my mind around the very concept of what the good scientist has put forward and if you understand it then I must have missed something." she said, her tone colored with concern that she might of accidentally insulted the other girl as she walked "around" the "device".
"This thing, Ari." Ezri said as she spread her arms out wide to encompass the whole thing. "could digitize everyone on the captain's yacht without even damaging the yachet itself...the idea kind of scares me."
"Well back where I come from I would be what is called a sci-fi nerd... er a closet one anyway... But all this stuff authors babbled nonsense about all day in books, TV shows and animated shows... There was even gamed dedicated to this stuff... Erm basically your converting matter to energy. It works like the transporter just enmass and can store on demand. Simple enough concept have the system look only for matter and then copy it... Well copy is the wrong word but that basically is the idea becuase the original matter would no longer exist... Well it would; but it wouldn't... Some even brought up the question of if you are still truly you when you are transported... Or if the original you died and your just a clone..." Ari said as she looked sort of thoughtful.
Ezri nodded, her expression thoughtful. "Honestly, I was never a fan of the history of the Earth that was but I've got a feeling that I would've had a lot better time there in that era then I do now...even though I'd probably get teased for my figure." she mused as she thought about what Ari had just said for a few seconds before nodding in agreement. "But what you said is pretty much the gist of what Holden has come up with but the thing is that she found a way to compact the data streams that each one of us would become into basically a terabyte each of data which doesn't seem like much when we measure computer data storage in terms of quads but still...if we have to incorporate this on a large scale, think of what it could do, Ari."
"We could at the very least sent our enemies somewhere else or keep them in suspended animation in the buffer. As for my time... Well I think a lot of the people here would do fine... YOu all would just have to get use to the culture shock of not having all your tech..." Ari said as she continued to observe her finish up her work. She wondered if thre was much else on the topic that needed to be discussed besides approval on something like this would be beyond her but she was sure she could talk to Yuka about this and figure it out.
Ezri nodded, "It might work that way but Doctor Holden was more hopeful that this could be used to help people, but I can see if the equipment can be adapted for use on the bugs if you wish?" she offered up.
The scientist then looked away from Ari for a moment before she turned to look back at the other woman. "So..um...how are things with you?" she mused.
"Same as always actually... Still trying to fill that void in my soul... But outside of that I am quite content with this new job." Ari said to her. She was reminded of the short time the two shared together. They never got to talk really about anything other than work since then but it seemed that they both understood their place in one another's life.
Ezri looked at the other woman for a few moments before a faint blush crept onto her pale cheeks before she turned away. "I understand about voids, Ari, there was someone that I was rather attracted to and I kind of got scared and buried myself in my work, like I usually do. Still kicking myself weeks later if you can believe that?"
"I actually feel the same way about some of the people from my past... Um..." Ari paused for a moment then continued. "So... are you still looking for friends and what are you doing next weekend? We have some missions and work coming up but... would you want to do something on the 18th?" Ari asked.
Ezri blinked a couple of times before shaking her head, "I've got nothing really coming up other then helping get everything ready with the whole combat thing and testing of my new torpedoes, but other then that I'm open on the 18th...so yeah, I'd love to do something." she said.
Ari nods "Cool... We will set up for that... its a date... I have other things to go work on but keep me updated on this weapon..." Ari said to her and then headed back out; before leaving saying. "Send me a VX if there is anything else you need."
[Post completed. If you want to do another part we can later but finishing posts we can move the mission and story along]
