Reunion

1,858 words; about a 9 minute read

Mission: Season 2: Mission 1: Day after Day
Location: City Ship, Arboretum
Timeline: Post Bug Cannon mission briefing

Seraphina sat on a park bench, watching the birds with nostalgic fascination. The memories of what it was like to fly, all but mute as the latest conundrum sat in her mind. Between her very morbid conversation with Jay, her therapy with Sarissa, and now who she was so sure was her son. Well it left her mind spinning to say the least.

The park was nice and quiet as she thought about these things, life having seemed to take one crazy spin after another.

Kyle was running down the path with Holley following next to him. He had wireless ear buds In his ear and in running gear running down the path passing Seraphin. He had the face of concentration but didn’t seem off beat. He completely missed everyone nearby him.

Seraphina's focus was distracted by the sound of running, and turned around looking him in the eye as he passed. "K...", she started but stopped.

Kyle stopped and turned to Seraphina, “Now that’s a name I haven’t went by in a long time.” He said smiling looking at her slightly panting from all the running.

"Are you really my son? You look exactly like him, you have his first name, but.....you're also different.", She let the question slip even as she was thinking it, both fearful and hopeful on what his answer might be.

Kyle gave a long pause, as a tear dropped down his smiling face, ”Oh. Well, that’s odd. The last time someone adopted me was when I was kidnapped then sent somewhere else. Odd life huh? Except she had wings.” He said in a ever so slightly shaky joyful tone.

"I did at one point, when I had a son. A young man named Kyle Dee who worked on a ship called the  the Brimstone, a young man I was proud of.", She said as she slowly got up off the bench.

Kyle was becoming noticeably slightly uncomfortabl, taking a step back. “Indeed... well this sure is an odd predicament I have found myself in, again. Hope Ceilia or the others- never mind me!” He said shaking a bit taking another step back. He was wearing a silver necklace with his name inscripted on it in Egyptian characters. This would be VERY much  common from when they last met.

"Kessler is here as well, and Neera. Ceilia was copied for the trip here as well. It's nice you remember her, and I know you remember me. I heard the m when you almost called me mother.", she continued as she came around the bench towards him.

“There’s many things different. I didn’t come here the, ‘easy way’ as they put it. I had to... experience it.” He said still shaky and unsure of the situation. It being thousands of years for him.

"But your here now. And I've missed you.", Sera said as a tear ran down her cheek as she gently touched his cheek.

“It’s been a rough thousand years. It’s not easy trying not to be murdered by everyone calling you a false profit he He he...” He said with a nervous laugh.

She hugged him right then and there. She had felt so lost lately, and this had seemed like a godsend.

"Try being the angelic messenger of someone's God. It's why I had my wings removed."

Kyle slowly hugged her back, “Horrible. If I was there I would have killed the person who did that to you. The past thousand years I’ve had to learn to fight. Weather I wanted to or not. I wish I didn’t have this wretched body. But its not fun living forever.” He said trying to comfort her and slightly crying.

"I've been so alone. Battle after battle, people keep dying, and now earth is gone.", she sobbed as she held him tighter.

“Is there anything I can do? I don’t like the lack of options I have. I may not be able to do much, but I know more now. I can help. I-“ He took a deep breath. “I care about you Seraphina.”

"I don't care if your over 7000, you will always be my son. I love you, and you always have a home with me.", Seraphina breathed, "I can always use a hand in the labs."

”Sure! Anything is better than being dead weight.”

"Things will be easier to handle now that I have you here with me." She said releasing him a bit to give him a smile.

"I guess I should get you up to speed on this universe. Here join me on the bench."

He nodded, “Sure, that would be most appreciated! “ he said smiling, then turning away blushing slightly. “Would you care to... release me. Your... your in my face...”

She looked down at where her chest was, "Oh! So sorry." She said letting go.

"I just got so happy that I didn't pay attention.", Seraphina said before retaking a seat on the bench. "So where to begin?"

Kyle sat next to her in a upright and proper positio, differnt than his usual self from last time she saw him. “You could start with why Earth is a heaping cess pool.” He asked joyfully tones.

"The bugs attacked. 80% of the population died as the world was glassed. The survivors live on this city ship. To be honest this is a very strange universe, and very violent. A month ago we fought a man named Darius, He had the power of a god, and he believed life was a disease to be cured......His cure was death.", she said solemnly as she remembered each battle and event, "A world was completely destroyed during the battle, and we threw every fleet at him at once. He swatted one ship out of the sky after another. Eventually we killed him."

“Sounds like some cliche movie line from the 1950’s. I’m not really phased by it much though.” He said looking down at the ground. “After killing more people than The Great War and World War 2 combined. I’m not that much affected by horrible events anymore.” He said in a less jolly mood

"This place is Hell with makeup over it. I was told the other day by the first person who had even bothered to talk to me. He said there was no hope, that love was pointless, and that we would all die alone.", Seraphina said struggling in the process, but something about what he said brought it to mind.

She rung her hands together in her laplap, a forced smile on her face.

“What seems to be on your mind?” He asked her with a joyful tone.

"I'm starting believe him....I almost......", she looked ashamed, "I let it get to me and I almost....made a grave mistake."

"I've been going to therapy sessions with Mrs. Sarissa.", she admitted.

Kyle gave a smile that was riddled full of opinions. Though he kept it to himself, “After me having learning that probably would outlive everyone. I shot myself. More than once. Still here though. I’ve realized that it’s just better to accept my fate of my longevity. However, you shouldn’t believe what he says. As a, well a man now. Whom has seen a place kill 75% of everyone and wars leaving almost nothing. Don’t give up. Because good things always come. Like today!” He said in his joyful mood.

"I tried to jump off a stone bridge here in the park. She stopped me as  began to climb over the rail. I had already given up. And I'm ashamed that I did, that I was so selfish to notnot think of others.", she admitted, "But your right, there is hope. The The universe brought you back to me."

Kyle leaned In and kisses her then leaned smiled, “As another red head weirdo once said, ‘Never gunna give you up! Never gunna let you down!’” He said chuckling leaning back to his original position.

After the kiss touched her forehead, Sera leaned on Kyle as she wrapped her arms round him, "Yeah but you're my redhead. And the best son a mother could ask for."

Kyle looked back to her, “If you have any issues please tell me and I will do the best I can to help. After all, that’s why I’m here. I’m just- never mind me!” He said in his joyful tone. Hiding his personal feelings.

"Thank you. It's good to be together again. The apartment only has one bedroom, so you can have the bed.", she says continuing to lean on him.

“Haven’t you learned anything about me? I never use a bed willingly. The last time I used one was with you. I’m not kicking you out of your house and home. Nor am I making you surrender anything to me. I will earn my keep.“ he said sternly and serious.

"Then I guess we snuggle, but surrender implies I'm forced, as a mother I just want the best for you. No sacrifice is too small.", Sera said with a smile.

“It’s been a long time for me. I’m not sure how you got here, but I haven’t had a family in a very, very long time. So it’s, still weird.”  He said plainly, he didn’t have the same mentality as he did so long ago. Not having good parents. Now that he’s older. Parents are something of a old memory to him.

"Well  you still got one, and you're the only family I've ever known.", she said before playfully tapping him on the tip of his nose lightly with a small, "boop." From her as she did.

“If it’s a family you want. Then I’ll be happy to oblige!” He said happily, poking her back on the nose, “Boop you too!”

He sighed then thought for a moment, “What are My orders then. I rather be doing something than being useless. It’s not like we can go back to where we came from. Not like I had much to go back to anyway. I doubt many people knew who I was.“ He said still upbeat.

"Well you most likely be sent into the field with the others, and when not, as I said I could always use help in the labs. Your smart, you can pilot a mech, and you must have experience with a gun. With that combination of skills, you could help out in more then one area. As for specific orders, that's up to the Captain Ari, or Miss Yuka, the woman from the briefing.", Sera explained.

“I see, so I’m just a soldier to them. Well, I cannot blame them, I have been keeping my identity secret. It’s only natural for them to distrust me. As well as my age being very much higher than most of them.” Kyle said Joyfully wondering and thinking about the situation.
