An intelligent view

Posted on Friday October 5th, 2018 @ 2:14am by Lieutenant Commander Cameron Soran-Ward

697 words; about a 3 minute read

Cameron Ward, the Chief Intelligence Officer, stood within a secured holodeck but within a massive "sphere" of information that swirled around him like he was creating his own orbit as he tried to figure out so much and how he could've missed so much more.

He was responsible for seeing threats to the Trinity forces before they struck and to formulate responses to other threats before they could become threats but as he tackled other problems-a few slipped through his fingers like fine sand through a broken door.

The incident where the Trinity forces were almost taken care of for "not doing as they were told"...the sudden appearences and attacks on the city-ship-thing...the black prison...

These were some examples of things that he was missing while dealing with other problems of the bigger whole such as the attempt by a rogue senator within the Manticorian Systems Alliance that had attempted a take over after the fall of Earth when President Astrovich refused to unseat Sakura's cousin from being the president or the crew of a renegade Federation starship attempting to steal a prototype light multi-vector destroyer called the AFS "Centurion".

Cameron ran a hand tiredly over his face as he looked over the streams of information and data that was constantly shifting from a nice safe green to a fluxing angry red to a calm, sedate blue and a somber, dead gray as his eyes tracked the movements of each strand-eyes and mind ever alert for any changes that would allow him to stand ready to deploy those elements under his control to handle the threats but the question that was in the for front of his mind still exists;

How was he missing so many things?

He was drawn out of his thoughts when the secured doors to the room open and his right hand, since the "retirement" of Emily Quartermaine several weeks prior, in the vulcan officer Kilonax stepped into the room with the doors sealing behind him. "Commander Soran-Ward, you have been at this for the last ten hours. Protocol requires you to take a break every four to allow your body to rest." he said in a prompt and respectful tone.

Cameron was about to argue the point when he finally heard his stomach make a very loud growling sound at which point he rubbed his stomach thoughtfully and he looked a tad sheepish. "Maybe I could do with a sandwhich but this work has to be done, Lieutenant, and I'm the most qualifed to do it."

Kilonax slowly nodded, "Perhaps but causing your body to collaspe to do it isn't the most logical of ways." he stated in the same tone. "Perhaps a moderate meal and then some time with your girlfriend might help to alleviate some of the stress that's been building."

Cameron went to make a comment about that but the vulcan beat him to the punch by holding up hand to forestall it. "That was not to say that you haven't been spending a good amount of time with her already, but sometimes it helps to simply see the person and chat with them about any and all things nonesense to help cleanse your katra." Kilonax pointed out simply.

Cameron realized that the man had a point and slowly nodded as he logged out of the station and went to go past him but he stopped and look at Kilonax in the face. "You will alert me if there is anything of note." he asked in a way that was more of a statement then a question.

The vulcan slowly nodded, "Of course, Commander."

"Good, I'll be in the lounge for the next bit. Happy hunting." Cameron said before he unsecured the doors long enough to exit the room with the doors resecuring behind him.
