From the galley

1,392 words; about a 7 minute read

Andrew was sitting in the quarters that he shared with Hitomi and was enjoying a bit of quiet between shifts as he sat in his favorite chair that looked out into the quiet void of space as he sipped from a glass when the door let him know that someone was outside which made him sigh in frustration as he just wanted some quiet time to himself since the positions that he and his lover had given them very little time as of late just to enjoy the quiet as he turned in his seat just enough to say "ENTER!" in a hard tone.

But whatever he was going to say vanished in an instant when he saw who was looking into enter his quarters.

The man who stood there was a very respectable looking older man with his dark hair cut in a way that highlighted his features rather than taking away from them but there was no mistaking the age of him from the amount of gray that was in his hair and his black and red suit was cut in the fashion of the ancestral styles common to those of the planet Demmeter and when he spoke, it was with a measured and respectful tone. "Hello Andrew."

Andrew nodded as the intial shock started to wear off as he noticed the two members of the Alliance Presidental Guard standing outside in their signature blue and white suits as the old solider motioned for the other man to come in fully with the door closing behind him. "Rokk, what are you doing here?" he asked cautiously, unsure why the president of the MSA would be on board this city-ship of all places.

"I've been here for a short while now, met with your Captain Rembrandt about Connor's plan which apparently has been put to the wayside due to the apparent defeat of the Swarm." Rokk explained as he regarded the old soldier. "You're looking good, rested and happy for once in your life."

Andrew couldn't help but chuckle at that comment, "Thanks but don't try to change the subject, Rokk. I know you too well...so what brings you here?" he asked pointedly before taking a sip from his glass.

"To be honest one reason is that I was getting tired of looking at the walls of my quarters and the constant stream of reports that was coming across my desk, so I decided to go and check on an old friend of mine to see how he's doing." Rokk said in a pointed manner back at Andrew before motioning to the empty chair.

Andrew nodded to the unasked question as he moved to one side to allow the president to sit down. "So do you think of the Onyx and all of this hardware?"

Rokk arched an eyebrow, "Are you asked me as the alliance president or as another person?"

"Another person."

Rokk chuckled before he grew somber, "I think it's a bit much. If there was something like this or the...what is that ship called again, the Musashi?...then why did humanity have to run when the Swarm attacked old Earth?" he asked simply. "I can understand if there was a need for it to be elsewhere but did the cradle of humanity have to pay for someone's blantant disregard for defense operations?"

Andrew couldn't help but shrug at that statement as his friend understood planetary destruction unlike most, having seen it twice in his life time before he became a political figure. "So how are things back in the alliance then?" he asked, trying to change the subject.

"Things in the alliance are fine, to show that we're not some kind of backwater political group I am going to open elections for the alliance president in the near future and of course I bet you can already guess who already has his hat tossed into that ring." Rokk said with a humorless chuckle.

"Dane Hans Vogel of Kuat?" Andrew asked

Rokk nodded, "Yeah, he thinks that because he runs the Kuat Drive Yards and by extension the entire planet that makes him a natural to run the entire alliance as a whole and not to mention that he's already got three other senators in his pocket doesn't hurt matters for him much." he explained.

Andrew nodded as he took on last sip of his drink before getting up to get himself a refill and making a glass for his friend which he handed to him as he sat back down. "Here, looks like you need this as much as I do."

Rokk to the offered glass and looked at it's contents for a moment. "Vodka?"

"No, water...just plain old cold water." Andrew replied.

Rokk gave an actual chuckle before taking a drink from his glass. "So how are things with you and your ladylove? The last time you sent me a message things were still fine between the two of you but there was other problems?"

Andrew nodded but didn't say anything at first as he took a long pull from his glass, the ice clanking becoming the only noise in the room for a few seconds before he finally nodded. "Yeah but that other problem hasn't reared its head in a while so I'm alright to let that one lay but other than that things between me and Omi are doing fine, there is some stretches that we don't see each other because of our respective positions within the Trinity but other than that, I get to come home every night and hold her cloes with her warm breath on my neck as she cinches her arms around me...nearly pulls my still flesh and blood arm out of its socket every so often saying that it's hers as she turns over and happily starts snoring in her sleep."

Rokk chuckled at that as he looked over at Andrew, "So everything is going well then, I'm happy to hear that."

Andrew nodded and the two men lasped into a mutual silence for a few minutes, simply enjoying the quiet and watching the odd shapes of the various ships of the Trinity Command float past in the distance of the viewport before Andrew heard Rokk make a thoughtful noise. "What's up?"

"I've been thinking that since the elements of the alliance among the Trinity is represented by yourself and Miss Deparra, I was considering speaking with someone to discuss adding a larger alliance profile among this force." Rokk explained as he motioned towards the ships outside. "I would be proud to have some of our nation's finest warships helping to maintain order in these chaotic times as well as provide more troops."

"That makes sense, you might want to put it past Aidan though since he is the second in command of the whole Trinity thing since Yuka's been kind of busy dealing all the poltical aspects of the job." Andrew explained.

Rokk nodded and then finished off his drink before standing up as did Andrew. "It was good to talk with you again, Andrew. But if you'll excuse me, I'm going to find this...Aidan?"

"General Aidan Thornton, he's either here on the Onyx or over on the Providence." Andrew explained.

Rokk nodded before patting the other man on the shoulder. "Luck in battle, boy." he said reassuringly before he headed out the door, leaving Andrew to his thoughts once more.
