What is This Place?!

Mission: Season 2: Mission 1: Day after Day
Location: Oynx City-Ship; Research District; Dedrick Kalhish Temporal Analysis Institute
Timeline: October 12th 4566 Evening

Ari left her quarters hearing the city ship had arrived. A shuttle was heading to it. She takes the shuttle along with anyone else from the crew who would be interested. Upon arrival she goes to one of the science labs; in particular one of the people who deals with theoretical physics and time stuff. An old man is staring at a chart... if that is even what you would call it; with millions of lines branching off of one point. He keeps looking form a pad to that chart and marking off lines so they disappear from the holographic chart. Misa had followed Ari here. Ari was still dressed in just her tank and shorts with sneakers on. She stared at the man questioningly as he resumed his markings taking awhile to even notice anyone was in his lab.


Aidan took in the surrounding. He hadn't had a chance to visit the city ship before now, so he was making up for lost time. Was this the future of combat ships? He doubted it, though the specs were impressive.


(Plus they installed a holographic system to make it seem like you actually are in a city; it has weather and such)


Charlie is back on the Lavie doing whatever he normally does while on duty.


Seleni also curious had went along. "What do you think he's doing?" she asks Ari.


Jack joined along with Kessler, Neera, Sarah, and Sera. All were dressed casually. Jack and Kessler were in jeans and muscle shirts(despite not actually being ripped or anything.), Neera and Sarah wore skirts and t-shirts, and Sera wore a sundress which ran past the knee in length.
Jack: marking off possible paths? Doesn't look like any map I've ever seen though.

Aidan speculated. "Trails of the bugs?"(edited)

At Seleni speaking the scientist turned around. "Oh... I'm sorry... I get a little too into this task... don't worry though We have all the time int he multiverse to complete that task... What can I help you with?" "Multiverse? You sound like you got something out of a comic book... And I did have a question; all this time travel shit... I mean bugs come from nowhere... holes rip in the universe... what the fuck is all this and couldn't we jsut go back?" 

The man shakes his head no. "Impossible... The worldline  you are in is a convergence of multiple worldines and streams of time... This is what it is... Even if you managed to go back what is to say that your past would not become your future... You can't really guarantee what happened even if you were in this time line... See part of the problem lies with that due to you actually existing in this line in this future the "past" you know is what led to this future; if you were to continue to exist in your past and not be brought into this "future" then it would have unintended side effects as for any possible solution to that... There is not one as there is no way to actually properly verify if such a change would have the desired effect.
"On top of this... With other dimensional lines converging on this one... well.. this "future" is not exactly the correct future for the original worldine."
Ari just tilts her head "English?"


Seleni says "Huh?" with a blank expression


"Okay..." The man dismisses one holographic screen to where a sort of marker board appears
He pulls out a holographic sort of pen and marks one point. "This is our current location in the space time continuum."


Observes from the back of the group, a little lost in the temporal mechanisms.


He then draws three lines that connect to it. "This first line is the main worldline... it branched off as soon as you, Layton and the other time travelers arrived... this second worldline which we entered is the result of Pine and his people arriving.. and this third line is from the bugs demension."
"So by all of these things occurring there are shifts in all of the worlds in essence by you existing here you created a new history..."
"You can't go back."


Jack: but are me and my people really time travelers? As far as I can tell, this isn't the same universe, or even part of my own timeline. Your technologies are too far advanced for the black claw to have conquered humanity as they did in the past where I'm from.(edited)


"Even if you did go back you would potnetially create an entirely different path that would not lead to this future."
"Mr. Pine you are indeed corect; by arriving in this universe even if you did return to your own it would not be the same; by having the events that led you here happen you created a new worldline."
"You being there would change its history knowing what you know."
"So we are all stuck here..." Ari said and the man nods "Even if you did go back it would not be what you left."


"I thought changing the world was one thing, but changing an entire timeline?", Jack said with a shake of the head.
Neera: I agree, that's a lot to take in.


"Time flows on its own course?" Seleni asks

Aidan piped up. "Time travel is a really bad idea. Just look how screwed up Jim Olend got us."


Sarah: does it really matter though? Our course is set and we have no choice, but to ride it out. Besides I like this place better then Kikyo anyways. Far less empires and wars.(edited)


"Exactly and by Olend moving you girls here he created a new worldline... which without such a worldine Jack and his people might have never arrived here."


Drass scratched his head, "So if changing the timeline won't help us, why are we here?"


"See how events affect the course of the entire system?"


Jack: can't say I have any regrets about that.


Thinking to himself, "Jim continues to screw with my life."


Kessler: who the fuck is Jim?
Sera: does it matter?


"James Olend a former EU collaborator." The scientist said.
"Though this stuff I just mentioned is why the temporal security service chooses very limited events to interfere with."


Emily and Lee walked up with the security-chef crossing his arms over his chest with bemused look on his face as the raven-haired woman blinked a few times. "Are we really talken about that blighter?" she mused.


"As thier interference and time travel in and over itself affects the whole..."


Aidan added, "he like to take girls out of their own timeline for his own perversions."
Kirishima Yuukoni - Yesterday at 5:17 PM
"Ew..." Seleni says.


"Olend is the reason Yuka Layton ended up here and he is related to how Emily Quartermaine, Layton's cousin and others arrived in our timeline."
"He liked to play games so much so that the EU took his powers from him."
"If anything we do effects everything else then what does it all mean and have there been other instances where other dmensions converged with our own?"
Ari asked
The man then replies "Yes... The Golothian Empire was a dimensional convergence... The events where the Union Defense Force talked with the UDC and created another force of transfer personnel across what everyone at the time thought was time was actually an entirely different dimension."
"Skynet; or rather the Skynet Mr. gainz comesf rom is a different wordline."


"What does this have to do with anything? Just what are you thinking?" Aidan wondered


"Dr. Gates created a device that moved Gainz worldlines.
"
"I am trying to figure out what is up with all the time travel ands tuff Aidan... so its all connected into one universe due t some fucked up mess of linkages..."
"Becuase of peoples actions."
Ari asked
the dead man - Yesterday at 5:23 PM
Jack: but why were we brought here?


Chuckling, Lee nodded. "Ain't that the fifty credit question."
Emily slowly nodded, her mind still trying to wrap itself around what she had just heard about how she wound up in this era.


"Why were you brought to this universe or why were you brought in this office?" The man asked to Jack
"And yes Captain Mizriki; causation and casality are the reason for all of this." "So basically shit happens?" She asked. "More or less... a man who believes he is god fiddling with time and space can only have negative side effects."
The man laughs


"So we're all here, just because someone wanted us to be here?" Seleni asks.


".. No; your here becuase someone fucked with something..."
"its a paradox... especially when time travel is thrown into the mix."
"Example with Laytonand Mizrki arriving here lets say those girls had children that would cause world peace of a world war... once they arrived in the future that neve happened this chaning everything and so sending them back would cause them to become themsleves and interface with thier future and their past at the same time."
"it would be like sending back your child to meet you before your child existed..."
"and theoretically your son or daughter could become their own parent."
"See the problem..."


Lee rubbed his chin for a moment, "So by that same number what would hypothetically happen if you were to send them back after altering elements after a secondary point?"


"Them knowing about this timeline would break the current system."
"You subconciously make choices baed on wha tyou know that you cannot control."


"Would they remember the current system as you call it?" Lee pointed out.


"Thus knowing the future they would change the past. in in that case the present."
"yes."


Jack: I'm meant this universe. I still don't understand what brought us here.


Lee made a "hrm" noise and crossed his arms over his thin chest.(edited)


"I wouldn't be able to tell  you that either Mr. Pine; that is defined by you; that you ended up here is but one peice to a larger puzzle..."
"Could we end up in one of those dimensions that the others came from?" "Potentially with the right equipment in the right area in space."
"Could we seal the bugs somewhere else?"
"If you rounded them up and ripped a hole in spacetime."


"To seal the bugs would require......" Seleni trails off.


Sera: wait but if we did that......what about those in that universe? We'd be damning someone else just to save ourselves.(edited)


The scientist laughs


"Not really....." Seleni says. "All we need, I think, is something that can rip the hole open in space and engines on it."


"Or you could just you know guide them into a black hole... they would be crushed by the time they reached the other demension..."


"wishful thinking" Aidan replied


"Do we know that they'll be crushed when the exit the white hole?"


"The black hole would compress the mass."
"Im fairly certain that a bug that is the size of this room being crushed into the size fo a toaster would not survive."
Ari shurgged. "Well... thats about what I came here for; you answred my questions... basically this time is the new present... woohoo..." The "woohoo" was sarcasm.


scott walks around his bunker wondering whats going on


Kessler: how do we lead them into a blackhole?


Seleni pats Ari on the head. "I guess the only thing we can do is make use of what we have now. But, the fact that the senators wanted to "control" the bugs is.....disconcerting."


"Just a bit. Bastards." Aidan said


Jack: strap someone with their favorite food and send them out towards the event horizon with the swarm on their tail.


Emily shakes her head. "Are the bugs actually using the gate system?"


Aidan piped up at that. "I nominate the Senate for that job."


The scientist returns to his time world of cataloguing potential worldlines and predicting curve of timelines.


"Can the bugs be controlled?" Drass spoke up.


Sera: why not draw them into an unpopulated system and draw them close to the sun. Then detonate a large antimatter charge to collapse the sun into a blackhole?(edited)
Neera: would they be smart enough in either case to know it's a trap?


"Depends on the teir we're dealing with." Seleni says, "If its something like just you're average bug in large swarms it'd be easy, but if there was a bug that was smarter we would need some other method of dealing with it."


Kessler: like a queen bug?
Sarah: wait wouldn't just killing the queen deal with the swarm itself. Usually once a queen bug dies, the drones go brain dead. Just like bees.


"They are controlled telepathically... hence swarm."
Ari said.
"Why do you think they came after Hikaru, me and others with telepathic abilities..."


Jack: then wouldn't eliminating whoever is controlling them achieve the same effect?

"They might be attracted to psionic people?" Seleni guesses.

"yes and yes... that is the idea anyway..."

Emily looked thoughtful again before nodding, "Sounds right but then again you have to look at the range of such a thing."

scott heads out of the bunker looking for charlie to show him his new toy for the bugs


Sarah: give me a long range cannon, and decoys to draw off the swarm, I could pick whoever it is off at extreme distance.

"I mean is it just natural psionics like the twins or does that include mechanically altered people with nanites shoved into them that replicates telepathy for instance?" she went on further.

"Well, there are a few issues with that idea Jack." Seleni says. "One is wouldn't those beings be protected? Two is we  don't know where said things are. Three is what happens to the queens when we do kill their masters?"


Jack, Kessler, Neera, and Sarah look at Emily. Jack: You mean us.


"A technician in the bunker says to Scott as he knows Scott is looking for Charlie, "Charlie is on the Bridge sir. He's on duty."(edited)


Sarah: sweetie, I said that, not Jack.


Ari replied "Well they did come after me; but I only recently realized my aptitude for psychic stuff with Sarissa's help... odesnt mean I didnt have unrealized telepathic powers before."(edited)
Ari replied


Emily shuts up, realizing that nobody is really giving any thought to her questions.


Jack: yeah our Geist give a form of telepathy supported by technology, we're even connected by a neural network. So yeah I like that we have bullseyes on our backs now.

scott decides to head to the bridge to find charlie

Emily runs a hand through her hair and blinks as she realizes that people did acknowledge her questions and looks sheepish.


Charlie notices Scott walk in the room and says "Hey Scott! What's up?"


Lee then nods as he rubs his chin. "Think the bugs don't like outside signals?"


(Scott; your character would know that the city ship is now with us... currently that is where everyone is)
(they were talking with a temmporal mad scientist about time and demensional travel)


Aidan walks to the replicator to retrieve coffee. "My question is are they chasing the psionics to stop them, like shutting off bad music, or is something else?"


Emily gets a thoughtful look on her face again as she crosses her arms over her chest in thought. "It would make sense...I mean you would want to shut off an enemy's jamming source wouldn't you/"


Jack: well I feel better, means we're threats to them.


"i got an idea for a toy for our buggy friends"
"how does a psionic jammer in a ceci sound"


"Disable the psychic abilities and they would have no control; the only concern would be woudl the go insane or would they just stop?" Ari asked

Sera: why not send them an overcharged psionic signal? Theoretical it would cause them to pop like popcorn.


"No idea if that would work; tall k to the reserach guys..."


Charlie replies to Scott "Hmm that sounds good. Could we over power them and turn them against themselves? Like a kind of enrage spell?"


Sera: which one?


"thats not my skillset." Ari replied to her.
(Remember everyone; dont respond to what vvbud and Scott are saying they are in a different location)

Jack: I mean I've done it to lights, monitors, and computers. Even a junction box once,.....that one was messy.


Charlie says to Scott "Actually why not make an attractor? A device that lures the bugs to a location? I think that might be more useful."


Sera: right, receivers, whether technological or biological. Are only setup to handle a certain number of signals, and only at certain strengths. If we sent several overcharged psionic signals, from different locations, should either cause their receivers to overload, or at the least disrupt their hive mind network.


Ari heads off to go explore teh city ships civilian commerce area.


Aidan follows her and catches us. "I know that need to be discussed, but I felt pretty useless." Aidan said to her.


"How would we generate such signals?" He asked Sera.


Seeing Ari and Aidan leave and the others in conversation with each other, Seleni slips out to wander around the City ship.


"Well... likewise... Anyway did you need something" Ari asked Aidan.


Sera: setup relays around the region of space the swarm resides, then send them a high output signal through an signal amplifier. Power it up as far as it will go and move the relays inwards.
Jack: could we fit all that on drones so they're mobile?
Sera: depends on how advanced and compact that technology is here. But hopefully yes.


"that may be a good idea charlie"


Neera: I'm going to go get a drink, this is giving me a migraine again.
Kessler: dido.(edited)


"No. Just trying to make sure we are okay." Aidan started to walk off.


"That'd be a lot of drones..."


"Well... I said what I meant in the room on the ship..." Ari said to him as she entered a clothing shop.


Emily walks off, slipping her hands into her pockets.
Lee on the other hand stays and studies what else is going on.

Drass Frowns as he pokes at a holographic display of some sort
"If only we could get the bugs to congregate in a single system..."


Aidan let her go. He wasn't one to hash out every detail. He walked over to a restaurant to get something to eat.


Seleni wanders into a park and rests by a tree.


Looks between Sera and Jack


Sera: that's what I was talking out earlier with the large antimatter charge.
